Lake Street USA
(1996 – 2000)
Expanding on the concept of Frogtown, Wing photographed thousands of people in the dozen neighborhoods connected by Lake Street, a major thoroughfare in south Minneapolis that reflects the dizzying diversity of society. Then, in May 2000, with the help of dozens of volunteers, the support of community and art organizations, and the collaboration of hundreds of businesses, Lake Street was transformed into an epic six-mile public gallery. For six months, 675 photographs were exhibited in store-front windows, bus stops, and on the sides of buses and buildings, ranging from 8 by 12 inches to 8 by 12 feet.
