Third Place Salon
Featuring Musicians Ashley Hanson and Brian Laidlaw of Alpenglow
November 19

Ashley's and Brian's lives intersected two years ago, and since then they have learned to collaborate in various ways: as writers, as performers, as community members, and as partners. Join them at the Third Place Salon on November 19th as they discuss their creative process, balancing these various art forms with musical and personal harmony.

Brian and Ashley will also be joined by members of the Yes! Lets Collective of artists and musicians, of which they are founding members. Brian and Ashley play with several Yes!Lets groups including Very Small Animal, Bipolar Bear, The Dusty Porch Sisters, and the “messy folk orchestra” The Family Trade. For a description of the Yes! Lets Collective, visit:

Ashley Hanson is a songwriter/art-organizer/community-enthusiast from Northern Minnesota. She received her MA in Community-Based Art from the University of Manchester, UK and has continued using art and performance as a tool to unite and inspire community in various settings. She had the pleasure of working with Wing to produce The University Avenue Project with Public Art Saint Paul, and of playing at several related events with her all-female bluegrass band, The Dusty Porch Sisters.

Brian Laidlaw is a poet/songwriter/word-nerd from San Francisco. After several years touring the US as a folksinger, he recently completed an MFA in poetry at the University of Minnesota, and is now on the songwriting faculty at McNally Smith College of Music. His poems have appeared in New American Writing, The Iowa Review and elsewhere, and his lyrics have appeared in American Songwriter Magazine. Brian's next album, wolf wolf wolf, will be released on November 17 at the Turf Club in St. Paul. (
